about
Memory from Andy's Vault:
It was one of Logic's first gig's ever outside of NYC and maybe the third gig all together for the band PROJECT LOGIC which featured Melvin Gibbs (bass), Skoota Warner (drums), Casey Benjamin (horns) and Mike Wietman (keys). It was also the 2nd year for the Berkfest so the whole SCENE was new.
The lineup for the whole fest was SICK and this was pre-Bonnarro and pre-any type of festivals so it was sort of like the first time all of these so called "jam bands" gathered in one spot so there was a TON of sit-ins and one-ups manship.
ANYWAY - as nobody really heard of Logic's band before we got a shitty time slot - 11am on the second stage. We pulled up got loaded in and there was NOBODY in the audience b/c (i) it was way too early in the morning (all the hippys were still sleeping in their tents) and (ii) it was POURING.
So we get up and start playing to literally NOBODY and that sort of takes the pressure off Logic who was sort of nervous, first gig outside of the city and all, and the band just starts GROOVING and launching into some sick improv.
Melvin's bass was THUMPING, I remember the rain on my umbrella popping up in the air with every THUMP of his bass.....and about 20 minutes into our 60 minute set, the magic starts - first 2 kids come running out in their underwear and start slam dancing in the mud, then a few more kids from the hills, and THEN it just seemed like the pied piper - folks started flocking from every direction.
By the time we got done with the set there was like 200 folks there and they were all dancing and FREAKING OUT. We left the stage, the sun came out and we all went out to breakfast.
